EB INTRODUCES NEW FEATURES, OPTIONS AND BASELINE CONFIGURATION TO EB PROPSIM F8 RADIO CHANNEL EMULATOR

Oulu, Finland (November 30, 2010) - EB (Elektrobit), a leading developer of cutting edge embedded technology solutions for the wireless and automotive industries, today announced the immediate availability of new software features and a new hardware configuration for its EB Propsim F8 real-world channel emulator, further strengthening EB Propsim F8 as a flexible and future-proof solution for the mobile broadband testing needs of chipset and device manufacturers, network equipment vendors and network operators.

New EB Propsim F8 platform features make emulation more powerful and easier to use

EB Propsim F8 now features a new, more efficient channel emulation engine. With a ten-fold increase in performance, the new engine allows EB customers to run more realistic and longer emulations, including advanced channel emulations for testing MIMO based systems such as LTE. The new engine provides EB Propsim F8 customers with more flexibility to run playback-type emulations such as Virtual Drive Testing (VDT) - allowing users to enhance emulations with the real-world accuracy of channel models and data captured with channel sounder measurements or with channel models created with third-party software simulation tools such as MathWorks MATLAB® or ray-tracing tools.

New usability enhancements introduced today in EB Propsim F8, including easier channel configuration and more intuitive user interface, leave EB customers with more time to focus on managing their test set-up. The new platform features are included in new EB Propsim F8 deliveries and are available to existing EB Propsim F8 users through a firmware update.

New EB Propsim F8 baseline hardware configuration offers a low entry point and an upgrade path to LTE-Advanced

EB Propsim F8 is now available in a new baseline hardware configuration. In this new baseline, EB Propsim F8 is delivered in an optimized hardware configuration, offering EB customers a cost-effective way to address their mainstream technology testing needs in R&D, pre-conformance, conformance and performance testing today while securing their channel emulator investment as well as their investment in testing systems integration against future requirements.

The new affordable EB Propsim F8 baseline hardware configuration is fully compatible with current industry standards, and supports FDD-LTE, TD-LTE, 3G WCDMA/HSPA+, WiMAX and WLAN testing with up to 42 MHz signal bandwidth over the 350-3000 MHz frequency range, including beamforming and MIMO configurations (2x2, 4x2, 4x4 and 8x2).

The new EB Propsim F8 baseline hardware configuration is upgradeable to LTE-Advanced (3GPP Release 10 and beyond) with added hardware support for up to 125 MHz channels and a wider frequency range up to 6 GHz. Upgrades to EB Propsim F8 are available for deliveries already today.

New EB Virtual Drive Testing (VDT) solution boosted by new EB Propsim F8 emulation engine

EB introduced today the new EB Virtual Drive Testing Solution, available as a software option on the EB Propsim F8 platform. The new EB Virtual Drive Testing Solution is based on an enhanced version of the proven EB Wireless Environment Solution (WES) software application (introduced already in 2005), boosted by the new, powerful emulation engine in the EB Propsim F8 platform.
Virtual Drive Testing (VDT) brings the real-world radio environment into a laboratory, allowing testing personnel to perform reliable, repeatable and traceable testing by including the RF conditions captured from real networks into their radio channel emulations.

The EB Virtual Drive Testing solution incorporates EB's advanced, patented channel emulation technology and EB's 20 years of experience on radio testing solutions. Powered by the EB Propsim F8 emulation engine and enhanced with support for MIMO playback (2x2 and 4x4/8x2 depending on operating mode), the new EB Virtual Drive Testing solution allows EB customers to emulate the real-world radio environment even more accurately. The increased accuracy, together with less need for field testing, allow EB Propsim F8 users to improve final product quality, reduce R&D costs and shorten time to market.

"The industry's need to reduce field testing and the introduction of advanced radio technology in communication systems are moving channel emulation technology towards more realistic emulations using channel sounding data and ray-traced models. The new features we introduced to EB Propsim F8 expand our patented emulation solution and provide our customers with more flexible options." said Antti Sivula, Senior Vice President of EB's Wireless Communications Tools Business. "Customers using EB Propsim F8 today have made a smart investment as EB Propsim F8 can be upgraded to support upcoming communication systems such as LTE-Advanced."
