Bittium BrainStatus is a wireless compact EEG amplifier, which is used together with a disposable easy and quick to wear Bittium BrainStatus electrode headband for diagnosing patients with altered mental status like status epilepticus. Bittium BrainStatus enables quick measurement in field conditions as well as in hospitals, thus making the treatment process of the patient faster. Bittium BrainStatus can be used for wireless real-time remote EEG monitoring or data can be recorded to the device memory.

The Bittium BrainStatus wireless EEG-monitoring device has medical device approval in Europe and is patented in the US.

Studies carried out at Kuopio University Hospital have shown that Bittium BrainStatus EEG electrode set enables reliable quick diagnostics. The electrode set significantly speeds up the recording process because there is no need for prepping the patient's skin in any way or to use any additional gels. As the Bittium BrainStatus headband is flexible and solid, the electrodes get automatically placed in their correct places. Furthermore, there is no need to move the patient's head when putting on the forehead EEG electrode set, which is especially important in patients possibly suffering from a neck or skull injury.

Due to the fact that the electrode set is easy and fast to use, it is particularly well-suited to be used in emergency care, in ambulances and even in field conditions. Thanks to the material of the electrode set, there is no need to remove it for computer tomography scans.

The use of EEG recordings in emergency care will benefit many patients. For instance, EEG recordings can be used in emergency, intensive and primary care to diagnose a variety of brain electrical activity disorders associated, for example, with head trauma, serious brain injury, cerebral infarction, cerebral hemorrhage, subarachnoid hemorrhage, states of poisoning and atypical altered states of consciousness.

Software

Bittium BrainStatus electrode, device and software together form a solution for easy EEG for non-EEG professionals. Windows 10 based software supports the Bittium BrainStatus electrode and also EEG with standard electrodes.

Software is designed for touch panels making it easy and intuitive for nursing staff and other users not familiar with EEG devices and software. However, it has all standard features EEG technicians and neurophysiologists expect, such as different EEG montages, EEG filtering, commenting, and split screen EEG review while recording. 

Software records EEG locally and simultaneously uploads data to network file server (or optional cloud) so that the same EEG can be reviewed from other EEG workstations throughout the hospital. Cloud solution expands availability outside the hospital and can be extended with the Cerenion C-Trend analysis as well as parameters such as Burst Suppression Ratio (BSR), amplitude EEG (aEEG) and Alfa/Delta Ratio (ADR).

C-Trend Index

The C-Trend Index provides reliable information based on the brain's slow-wave activity seen during sedation.
