EB AND ETS-LINDGREN JOINTLY INTRODUCE PRECISION MIMO OTA TEST SOLUTION FOR GLOBAL CUSTOMERS
New, easy-to-use solution now available for complex MIMO OTA testing to develop better mobile devices
Oulu, Finland / Cedar Park, TX, USA (March 22, 2010) - EB (Elektrobit), a leading developer of cutting edge embedded technology solutions for wireless and automotive industries and ETS-Lindgren, a leading provider of electromagnetic measurement solutions announced their partnership on MIMO Over-the-Air (OTA) testing. EB and ETS-Lindgren now provide customers with a simple, unified solution for complex MIMO OTA testing. The new solution combines the EB Propsim F8 MIMO OTA emulator with ETS-Lindgren's AMS-8700 MIMO OTA Test system which enables systematic and repeatable performance measurement of MIMO devices from 700 MHz to 6 GHz. For convenience, the solution can also be configured to support traditional SISO OTA measurements. Following extensive testing of the prototype system at ETS-Lindgren's CTIA authorized wireless test lab in Cedar Park, Texas, the solution is now available for immediate delivery.
"Consumers are demanding applications that require higher data rates to play games, download emails and watch videos, increasing the pressure on wireless providers to deliver devices that can address these needs," said Antti Sivula, senior vice president of EB's Wireless Communications Tools Business. "ETS-Lindgren is an optimal partner for EB as the integration of products from both companies provides one simplified MIMO OTA testing solution for our customers. Now, wireless device manufactures can accurately determine how well their devices will perform in a real-world environment."
EB offers the industry's first commercially available MIMO OTA emulator that is used for verifying the performance and data rate of MIMO mobile devices. With MIMO OTA testing, EB's customers can accurately determine the true performance of a wireless device. The new solution allows customers to efficiently test all critical parts of the mobile device design simultaneously, including antennas, RF front-end and baseband processing. Additionally, the testing solution eliminates the need for cables and test connectors leaving the mobile device intact. This allows customers to quickly evaluate different designs in a fully repeatable and realistic wireless environment to benchmark the performance of mobile devices for Quality of Service (QoS), data throughput, latency and spectrum availability.
"We partnered with EB because their EB Propsim F8 MIMO OTA emulator is extremely well-suited for MIMO OTA testing and EB has demonstrated competence in MIMO OTA technology" said Bryan Sayler, senior vice president and general manager of ETS-Lindgren. "EB and ETS-Lindgren's unique MIMO OTA testing solution provides the precise, real world measurement environment that our customers require now to develop the advanced MIMO devices which will power the next generation of 4G devices."
EB and ETS-Lindgren are working together towards MIMO OTA conformance standards in CTIA and 3GPP.
